In the Light of Air
Fri 8 Dec, 8pm & 1.15am
Shoreditch Church (St Leonard's)
Creating a home for mindful listening, the London Contemporary Orchestra perform works by Pauline Oliveros and the UK premiere of Anna Thorvaldsottir’s In The Light Of Air.
“If I am pure about my listening, and creating the sounds that come forth, the audience will feel that and respond to the sound. I am something akin to a high-wire artist. The audience are with you, because they perceive the risks and the dangers.” Pauline Oliveros
Furthering their collaborations exploring the connection between audience and player [Imagined Occasions, Across White Air], the London Contemporary Orchestra (LCO) and designers O’Neill/Ross(Surrealist Taxi) curate a selection of Pauline Oliveros’ text scores to share in her unique approach to meditation and music making: transforming Shoreditch Church into a home for mindful listening.
Following this, LCO will perform the UK premiere of Anna Thorvaldsottir’s In The Light Of Air. Rumbling and atmospheric, it calls to mind the sparse landscapes of Thorvaldsottir’s native Iceland, featuring a light installation which dims and glows according to the players’ breath.
